  • Developing and Using Effective Symbols for Audio Tactile Maps - ATMAPS - Time: 13:30 - 16:30 - Location:K 153CAccess: Open to all, with: Georgios Kouroupetroglou, Kostas Charitakis

    A number of standardizations / specifications have been proposed for tactile symbols used in tactile maps in the past. However, in the case of Audio-Tactile maps, in addition to tactile symbols and Braille labels, audio and audio-tactile symbols are used as well. We intend to disseminate the recent results of the collaborative efforts under the European ATMAPS project towards the specification / standardization of symbols used in audio-tactile maps.

    Target groups: Individuals with visual impairment, teachers of Individuals with visual impairment, Assistive Technologies specialists, rehabilitation specialists, Orientation and Mobility specialists, designers of Orientation and Mobility aids.

  • Creating Momentum via Communities of Practice - Time: 14:00 - 16:30 - Location:K 112AAccess: Open to all, with: Joan O´Donnell

    You are invited to share in the ongoing learning from a new Community of Practice for Assistive Technology, based in Ireland. It was set up  to create a sustainable community amongst a wide range of stakeholders. We are developing a peer to peer platform for learning and exchange of information in the area of assistive technology.

    Target Groups: This is a cross disciplinary workshop, anyone with an interest in crossing the boundaries of their own profession to learn from others is welcome.
    Maximum: 25 participants

  • Experiences in the Development of AAL Systems - Time: 15:00 - 17:00 - Location:K 033CAccess: Upon registration, with: Jean Hallewell Haslwanter, Katharina Werner

    Many projects have been developed to help older people stay in their homes longer – yet there aren’t many AAL systems available on the market. The goal is to share experiences from AAL projects, look for common patterns, and together find strategies to be more successful in the future.

    Target Groups: People who have been involved in developing such AAL systems who want to exchange ideas to increase success in the future, including developers, researchers, carers and older people.

  • Automated Website Accessibility Monitoring – How to Run Tools and to Use Reports. - Time: 15:00 - 18:00 - Location:K 012DAccess: Open to all, with: Mikael Snaprud, Annika Nietzio, Justyna Mucha

    Accessible web content is needed to assure digital inclusion. Automated website accessibility monitoring can help, developers to identify barriers, expert evaluators to focus their work, and inform policy makers about status and progress towards accessible online services.

    Target groups: Accessibility experts, policy makers, users of the web with interest in accessibility

  • Strategic Standardization Issues Concerning eAccessibility & eInclusion - Time: 14:00 - 17:30 - Location:K 034DAccess: Open to all, with: Christian Galinski

    The aim of this Workshop is (a) to analyse the situation of standardization in the fields of eAccessibility and eInclusion during the last 5 years at international level (after the workshop of the ITU/ISO/IEC World Standards Cooperation on “Accessibility” in 2010 with its recommendations) and in connection with standardization efforts at European level and (b) to formulate recommendations addressing decision makers on urgent issues concerning standards and standardization activities in the said fields.

    In this workshop, further recommendations will be collected, discussed and compiled.

    Target Groups: All actual or potential users of standards related to eAccessibility and eInclusion; decision makers in administration, industry or services who have to take pertinent standards into account; carers and care service providers interested in keeping abreast with development; stakeholders in standardization; researchers, trainers and experts with an interest in standardization activities and related certification.

  • Creating Assistive Technology Solutions in Minutes - Ordinary Items, Extraordinary Solutions - Time: 14:00 - 17:00 - Location:K 033CAccess: Upon registration, with: Therese Willkomm

    This presentation will discuss and demonstrate over 50 different types of assistive technology solutions that can be created in five minutes or less using specialty tapes, four different types of plastics, foam, and wire.  Each participant will fabricate three different assistive technology solutions to take home with them.

    Maximum number: 50 people actively involved, some more as "watching only"
