Creating Momentum via Communities of Practice

Description: You are invited to share in the ongoing learning from a new Community of Practice for Assistive Technology, which was set up by the Disability Federation of Ireland and Enable Ireland to create a sustainable community amongst a wide range of stakeholders. We are developing a peer to peer platform for learning and exchange of information in the area of assistive technology. Our goal is to develop a cohesive voice and strategy to ensure equal opportunities for people with disabilities and older people through the use of assistive technologies. This community of practice is based on the concepts developed by Wenger, McDermott and Snyder (2002). We invite you to share the learning, and to map your own landscape of practice, and explore how to generate new opportunities and collaborations, within a structured community setting.

Goals: At the end of this workshop, you will have a clear understanding of the concept of communities of practice, their potential in supporting greater cross boundary collaborations and learning around assistive technologies, and be equipped to consider how best to bring policy makers, technologists, academics and practitioners together with people with disabilities to create new emergent possibilities, within your own context.

Target Group: This is a cross disciplinary workshop, anyone with an interest in crossing the boundaries of their own profession to learn from others is welcome.
