Automated Website Accessibility Monitoring – How to Run Tools and to Use Reports.
Accessible web content is needed to assure digital inclusion. Automated website accessibility monitoring can help, developers to identify barriers, expert evaluators to focus their work, and inform policy makers about status and progress towards accessible online services. This workshop will cover
- Selected findings from monitoring over 1000 European websites
- How to run the checker tools from the European Internet Inclusion Initiative (EIII).
- Ways to use the reports from the tools for website improvements.
The EU institutions (Parliament, Council and Commission) have on 3.May agreed on the proposed EU directive on web accessibility. According to this agreement the directive will require regular monitoring and reporting of public sector websites and mobile apps by Member States. These reports have to be communicated to the Commission and to be made public.
When the text has been formally approved by the European Parliament the Member States will have 21 months to transpose the text into their national legislation.
